New Satsumadori Rooster

American Game rooster

Today a neighbor stopped by who just happened to notice that we did not have a mature rooster in our flock of 36. He introduced himself and asked if we would be interested, that he was downsizing his flock and had a gorgeous rooster that a friend gave him. After discussing temperament and whether the roo has had shots, he offered to bring him by and let us have a look. A few minutes later his truck approached the house with the rooster in the cab! Well I guess that explains his great temperament! Our neighbor described his beauty and made a comment that he was “worth some money” but that he was five years old and needed a good home. Needless to say, after holding him I just fell in love. He is absolutely gorgeous and has settled in very nicely here on our farm.

EDIT:Thanks to one of our readers, Andrew Taylor, for correctly identifying our new rooster. He is an American Game fowl. But still striking, don’t you think?

He is an Satsumadori (origin Japan) American Game, and his plumage is breathtaking. My parents and grandma came over and we all watched a little chicken TV this evening before the rain set in. It really is amazing to see him take on his new role at the top of the pecking order. Oh, and he does still have some ‘young roo’ in him! ;)

    Hi
The cockerel in the photo is not a Satsumadori, he is an American Game. Satsumadori have not yet been imported into the USA unfortunately.

Thanks, Andrew! The previous owner seemed quite unsure of what he had so it left us to do a picture search. We appreciate your expertise! Please stop by again :)
